London is gearing up to impose weight-based taxes and stricter regulations on large vehicles like SUVs. The London Assembly recently voted on a motion to address the soaring numbers of these hefty vehicles on the capital’s roads. The proposal calls for new taxes based on vehicle weight and increased parking fees for larger cars.
Advocates argue these measures will improve road safety and manage congestion. Critics, however, see it as an unfair attack on drivers, particularly noting that electric vehicles, which are typically heavier, are also impacted.
Mayor Sadiq Khan is now tasked with considering these recommendations.
