A catastrophic fire has engulfed the Morning Midas cargo ship, 220 miles south of Adak, Alaska. The blaze, feared to have started on a deck loaded with electric vehicles, sees over 3,000 cars at risk. The vessel, traveling from China to Mexico, was abandoned after the fire erupted.
The U.S. Coast Guard and Zodiac Maritime are assessing damages and planning safe responses amidst concerns of pollution and potential fuel hazards. Initially, 22 crew members attempted to combat the blaze but were safely evacuated by another ship, Cosco Hellas. Authorities continue to monitor the drifting, charred vessel at sea.
